Believe

BELIEVE

The goal here is not to cover each area exhaustively, or even adequately, but simply to give a clear understanding of our basic beliefs on some of the fundamentals of the Christian faith.

The Bible

The Bible is the inspired Word of God and contains everything we need, when combined with the Spirit of God, to direct us in this life. It is light and life. It is infallible and inerrant. It was written by men inspired by the Holy Spirit. From cover to cover, it has one central theme – GRACE, and one central character – CHRIST. It should be interpreted literally when applicable and treated as the final authority in dealing with life issues. [2 Tim 3:16, Heb 4:12, Isa 55:11, Psalm 19, 119, Deut 32:47]

God

God is completely sovereign in all things. He exists as one God with three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the holy, perfect, all powerful, all knowing, ever present, patient, forgiving, merciful, gracious, and loving supreme creator God, worthy of all honor and praise. [Psalm 115:3, Deut 6:4, Matt 3:16-17, Isa 30:18, 40:28, 55:8-9]

Jesus

Jesus, the perfect God-Man, was fully man and fully God. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a Virgin. He lived a sinless life. He voluntarily went to the cross as our substitutionary atonement. He conquered death by rising from the grave and now intercedes for His people at the right hand of God. He will return in power for His people. [John 1:1-2, 14, Luke 19:10, Rom 5:8, 8:34, Rev 2:16, 22:12 & 20]

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the 3rd person in the triune God-head who convicts, draws, brings life, seals, gifts, and guides God’s children in this world. He takes the word of God and applies it to our lives as He illuminates its meaning to our hearts. [John 14:16-17, 26, Rom 12; 1 Cor 12, Eph 4:11, 30, Gal 5:16-25]

Salvation

Salvation comes by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. It is a free and underserved gift that God grants to His children whom He has called before the foundation of the world. It is entirely the work of God from the beginning to completion. There is nothing we can do to make God love us more and nothing we can do to make Him love us less. All whom God calls will come to Him. Because we do nothing to earn our salvation, we can do nothing to lose our salvation. God saves us for our good and His glory. [Eph 1:3-5, 2:8-9, John 6:35-45,65, 17:9, Isa 1:18]

Sanctification

Sanctification is the process by which God, through the power of His Spirit, is conforming us into the image of His Son. Just as our salvation is empowered by the Spirit, so too is the sanctification process. The combination of the Word of God and the Spirit’s direction leads believers into a deeper walk with Christ that ultimately enables them to live in ever increasing holiness and victory over sin as we mature in our faith. [Col 2:6-7, Eph 4:13, Rom 8:29, 2 Pet 1:2-9]

The Church

The Church is made up of Spirit-filled followers of Jesus Christ and is the body of Christ on earth. Believers were not meant to function in isolation, but community. That community makes up the hands, feet, eyes, ears, etc. of Jesus. The Church is the vehicle God is using to communicate the message of the Gospel to a world in need of redemption. The church gathers for mutual edification and encouragement, and scatters, or is sent out, to be the light and salt He has empowered us to be. The church (those that follow Jesus) should be distinctly different than the unbelievers they are engaged with. This difference, and the sense of community believers experience, is the “attractional” method the church should follow as we are used by God to expand the kingdom. [Acts 2:42-47, 1 Cor 12, Eph 4:11, Matt 5:13-16]

Eschatology

Christ will return in physical form to earth in power and glory. He will complete His kingdom by ultimately judging all evil and fulfilling His promises to His people. This should give all believers hope, encouragement, and a desire to live a life of “expectation” for His second coming. Ultimately, He will establish a new Heaven and Earth and all men will exist in a real physical place united to God or separated from God for eternity. [Acts 1:11, 1 Thess 4:13-18, Matt 24:29-44, Rev 19-22]

Statement of Faith

  • We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the Salvation of all men, and the Divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.

  • We believe in one God, creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally in three (3) persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  • We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.  He died on the cross, a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures.  He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into Heaven, where, at the right hand of God, He now is our High Priest and Advocate.

  • We believe the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and, during this age, to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.

  • We believe man was created in the image of God, but fell into sin and is therefore lost, and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.

  • We believe the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection from the dead provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe and only such as receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and they become children of God.

  • We believe the Lord’s Supper and water baptism are ordinances to be observed by the Church during the present age.  They are, however, not to be regarded as a means of salvation.

  • We believe the True Church is composed of all such persons who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit, and are united together in the body of Christ, of which He is the head; a relationship in which we are eternally secure.

  • We believe only those who are members of the true and invisible Church shall be eligible for membership in the local church.

  • We believe Jesus Christ is the Lord and Head of the true Church and that every local church has the right, under Christ, to decide and govern its own affairs.

  • We believe in the personal and imminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this Blessed Hope has a vital affect on the personal life now and service of all believers.

  • We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, of the believer to everlasting life and joy with the Lord, and of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment.

  • We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Gen 1:26-27.) Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.

  • We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Gen 2:18-25.)

  • We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1 Cor 6:18; 7:2-5;Heb 13:4.)

  • We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

  • We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God. (Matt 15:18-20;1 Cor 6:9-10.)

  • We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of CrossTrain Church as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to the CrossTrain Church members and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by CrossTrain Church in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, agree to and abide by these Doctrinal Statement, Statement of Faith and Constitution. (Matt 5:16; Phil 2:14-16; 1 Thess 5:22.)

  • We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19-21; Rom 10:9-10; 1 Cor 6:9-11.)

  • We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark12:28-31; Luke 6:31.) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of CrossTrain Church.
