Worth of the Word

An encouraging reminder from Jeff Daukas, Cornerstone Elder

"For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

“Trusting yourself to handle situations in life without the Lord

is like driving the Titanic into the iceberg, back up,

and go forward to hit it again”

It doesn’t take much to see the wisdom in those words. Similarly, it doesn’t take much to see God’s wisdom through His Word – seen through a daily and consistent walk with Him. This verse from Jeremiah is routinely use as a descriptor for how God will move in our lives. While that is certainly true, this verse is a part of a larger admonition and encouragement by Jeremiah to the nation of Israel. This specific verse highlights the restoration of Israel’s covenant promises with their Savior.

Take that and apply it to our world today. Are you working in a situation where the vision for where you’re going are clear and assured? Can you claim that the ethics of your administration are such that you would allow hope to surface as you trust in their decisions with or without your input?

Do you pull up a lounge chair on the deck of the Titanic and listen to the music play as the ship hits the ice again and again? Or do you work tirelessly remembering that what we do and how we do it is unto the Lord? Intentionality in that last part reveals your faith in the God of the Bible. The same God that promised to restore and renew Israel in Jeremiah’s time above is the same God today who is sovereign over COVID-19, isolation, worry, and hearts in despair as well!

The Bible references the concept of “a city on a hill” as an illustration of walking a distinctly different path – one where reliance on the Lord and support of our leaders is tantamount. Be the one today who shines the light high on that hill, walk worthy of the lofty calling bestowed upon you, and proclaim the Lord in a way where others are not just affected when you are there, but visibly impacted when you’re NOT. Take today and live this promise out! I am here for you if you need anything!

For Him,

Jeff A. Daukas
