Fill your soul with PRAISE!
Hello Cornerstone FRamily!
Our AMAZING Music Team wants you to know that we genuinely miss every single one of you! We’d love to encourage you!
2 Chronicles 20 is one of my favorite passages of scripture. To summarize, Judah was about to be invaded. Jehoshaphat had just been told that “a great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, out of Aram and behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar.” – To put it in perspective, this “great multitude” coming against Jehoshaphat, was right in the territory of Judah. I think we can see why Jehoshaphat was afraid in verse 3.
BUT! Catch what he does!
“Jehoshaphat…turned his attention to seek the Lord!” - 2 Chronicles 20:3
The next 17 verses unfold an amazing story of Christ-centered revival and renewing of minds! I get excited every time I read through it!
Verse 21 says “When he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who sang to the Lord and those who praised Him in holy attire, as they went out before the army…”
Now watch this!!
“When they began singing and praising, the Lord set ambushes against the sons of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; so they were routed” (or struck). “For the sons of Ammon and Moab rose up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir destroying them completely; and when they had finished with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.” - 2 Chronicles 20:22–23
Do you see what happened there?!? God used the faith of a man, to increase the faith in a nation, leading with the faith of a music team – to destroy the enemy – who ultimately destroyed themselves!!!
Don’t miss what God did there! I believe we can all take one – or all – of the areas we see Jehoshaphat, the nation, the music team renew their minds in Christ and learn from it!
On that note – You Are What You Listen To
Coming from a past of listening to many types of music that were not honoring to God and being an angry man, I can tell you from experience that you are absolutely what you listen to!
I asked each member of our music team to bring positive ways they renew their minds through positive, Christian music. Here are a few of their thoughts/ideas. I know I’m certainly encouraged, and hope you will be as well!
Kambria Morris – “Over the last couple of years, from incorporating Christian music into all the areas of my life, it has raised an awareness of the things I listened to before. Be diligent in what you’re listening to, what you’re reading - everything you consume shows up in your life. It’s like the kid’s song, ‘Be careful little eyes what you see, be careful little ears what you hear, be careful little mouth what you say.’ It all shows where our heart is.”
Abby Troyer – “When I know I’m spiritually in a bad place, I know I can’t listen to anything other than Christian music to renew my mind.”
Kyle Morris – “Often when I read scripture each morning, I notice they have lines of scripture that I associate with some Christian song. So, an idea I had was – part of my time of response, I should pull up that song and write it down (the title) and listen to it as a tangible thing to think about throughout the day as the song is stuck in my head.”
Two things we are working on as a team for our church body:
Putting together some kind of collaborative “playlist” of worship songs we all enjoy. – Kailee Troyer’s idea!
Doing a Zoom meeting worship session soon!
Know that your Cornerstone Music Team LOVES you all so much, and we miss worshipping our King together collectively, under one roof!
Love you all! The Cornerstone Music Team
