Mark your calendars for January 28th! Classes will take place every Tuesday night from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at CrossTrain Church. Be sure to register by January 20th by contacting Jeff Daukas, whose contact info is available on the CrossTrain Church website at www.crosstrain.church

The Importance of Studying the Old Testament

The Old Testament is more than just a collection of stories; it is the foundation of Judeo-Christian beliefs. For example, the Book of Genesis narrates the creation of the world and introduces figures such as Adam and Eve, whose stories resonate with themes of choice and consequence. According to a survey by the Pew Research Center, around 78% of Americans identify with Christianity, emphasizing the relevance of these texts to daily life. However, not even the Pew Research Center can come up with stats showing how many of those 78% of people identifying as Christians can speak with authority on the cultural, spiritual, and theological basis for their faith. That's what we tackle here!

Each book within the Old Testament offers lessons that apply to modern living. By understanding the historical context and meanings behind key passages, critical themes, and verse identification, you can gain deeper insights into your personal faith journey. For instance, studying the Ten Commandments (found in Exodus 20) reveals the ethical guidelines that shape moral behavior across cultural lines today.

What to Expect from the Training Center class

The Training Center's Old Testament class is designed for meaningful engagement. Over several sessions, you will explore key themes, notable characters, and significant theological concepts. You will dive deep into specific sections, allowing for a structured learning experience.

For example, one week might focus on the prophetic writings of Isaiah, which not only offered hope to the Israelites but also provide insights on engaging a culture that resonate today. Each class features discussions that encourage participants to share interpretations and ask questions, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Led by Elder Jeff Daukas and Deacon Marc Rossenbach, this study encourages critical thinking and practical applications of concepts learned. Small group discussions create an opportunity to build relationships with fellow participants, enhancing your experience through shared passion for Scripture.
